Equipment Costs and Frequency

For the purposes of finding equipment, villages are settlements of between 100 and 500 souls, towns between 500 and 5000, and cities are any number of citizens more populous than that. In the 13th century a town may be incorporated as a civitas, but in truth many of them (such as Transylvania’s Siebenburgen) are little more than swollen population centres without the level of sophistication and civilisation present in the Byzantine East or Western Europe. Obviously, master craftsmen are attracted to the higher wages and better living conditions of true cities, and this directly translates to the availability and cost of their wares.

Equipment listed as Common can readily be found in any village, town or city. Gear that is Uncommon can be found in towns and cities, or sometimes in villages as second-hand items if one is prepared to pay a higher cost (Resources 1 higher than required). Rare items can only be found in true cities, and at premium prices. Very Rare items are ven more difficult to obtain still, requiring custom craftsmanship from visionary artisans. They will be so unusual as to be thought unique, and memorable, to those who behold them.
